Upgrade/Replacement Shifter

The shifter assembly on my '95 5-speed has some play in it. I took a peek in there and part of the problem lies with what appears to connection of the main shift rod (prolly going to the tranny) and the rest of the assembly. It appears as if there should be a C-clip of sorts securing it on w/ a washer, but obviously none there. Also a short shifter would be nice as the shifts just seem to take too much time rowing through gears... I looked on eBay and there was what seems a complete shift assembly for the Gen II Neon, but none for the Gen I.... Where else can I look?

for the enthusiast many companys do make them including for the first gen. neon but get ready to get out ur wallet! u can go to andy'sautosport.com but if ur broke like the rest of us i suggest other wise. go to a junkyard and get a repalement stock, then get out the good old sawz all and cut the shifter short. if u want or need i can fabricat a custom shifter for u out of aluminum. this is what i did in my neon and it works great when i get the chance i'll send pix.

Get some booger bushings for $20 to get rid of the play n your shifter. They are definitely worth the money. I have a cut shifter on my 97 parts car if you are interested in it.

to remove the **** you have to pull the boot down a bit....there are 2 clips, one on each side or the handle.....pry out on the clips and pull the **** straight off......
to remove the boot, you have to remove the center console......from there, there are 2 but-plugs on the back and 1 on the front under the boot.....once the console is out, you can see the plugs from the side of the handle
