My dealer said that the EGR was causing the brakes to not work as they should.. But how the hell can some recycled air affect the brakes?? Stupid dealership.
i believe i read somewhere that 1st gens meant for export into mexico do not have any emissions devices on them. i know i read they dont have a catalytic converter butnot sure if they include an egr.
I have a 96 Neon and yes it has an EGR valve on it. I had it replaced myself. As loong as I ran the super unleaded or premium my light wouldnt come on, but as long as I ran the regular gas, my check engine light come on, had codes ran and everytime it would come up EGR valve system failure. So had the EGR valve replaced and fixed the problem.
You can try cleaning it up and reinstalling it, but usually it's the transducer that goes bad, not necessarily the valve or get a new one.
can u give me an idea of how to clean it? is there a DIY around here i seached but i coundnt find any. Oh and btw i have been getting low gas mileage 24-26 mpg / i normally get at least 30-32 mpg , would the EGR valve issue be a cause for low ?
