I've heard rumors about it, and Im starting to believe it because I can hear my engine knocking, and I cant figure out why- any ideas what it could it be? Is it true that neons have a "ghost knock" that never go away? i dont hear it much whenever its idling or in neutral or coasting, mostly when i first start accelerating in the higher gears (1, 2, 3) but not much past 4th gear. i dont know what it is, its really starting to frustrate me though because i dont want it to all of a sudden blow a rod threw the block know what i mean?
Ihad a 95 neon i had it for like 6 monthes and i descided to sell it and when the guy came to check it out he tried it found it went good and after he tried it he left it running and it started knocking, not loud but u could here it pretty good,,and after i turned the car off and started it back up it stopped doing it,,wierd,,now and then u can hear it,,i always wondered why it did that but never thought much of it,,lol
i wouldnt worry about blowing the motor, the neon i have now does it 2 and i guess they all do it eventually,,,,lol
Could be piston slap...common on neons with high milage. I know people who have driven over 100,000 mmiles with the piston slap and they are still going strong.
What you can do to fix it is turn the radio up louder.
mine had 200,000 had piston slap & knocks & lifters tappin at random since 120,000
i sold it, still runs.
