Default 97 4dr engine error codes & how to diagnos

ok my 97 neon is a 2.0 sohc i believe. NOTE this car has about 65k-75K miles on it. nowi did the key on and off 3 times and i got the code 43 and 44 and there were 2 more but they dont matter.

#43 is a multiple cylindar misfire detected. peak primary circut current not achieved with maximum dwell time.
#44 is batter temp sensor volts malfunction. problem with the battery temeperature voltage circuit in the pcm.

my question is how do i go about checking these two error codes and determining what my problem is and fixing it without going to a dealer and getting charges $800 just to look at it and tell me there is something wrong.

all your help is greatly appreciated and i want to thank you in advance.

A Code 43 most likely means you need to change your spark plugs and inspect your wires/coil pack for frays or cracks. When was the last time you did?

I wouldn't worry about the code 44. Is your battery temp sensor still attached?

ok sorry it took me so long but this car needs the tranny to be replaced and now i got a tranny out of another neon i got and i am starting to tear it down to the tranny and i noticed that that battery temp sensor wasnt even conected to they battery tray, it was pluged in but hanging upsidedown under the tray. and the little nut that would hold it to the tray was missing so it lust have vibrated loose or something. would that really cause it to run like ****? or what does that bettery temp sensor even do? can i just unplug it? well im in the garage so im gonna take the tranny out today and throw the new one in and ill get back to you on this.

thanks, Micah

The battery temp sensor won't affect how the car runs at all.

If the light comes on, you know it's working and no it doesn't matter if the sensor is working. Mine just kind of hung around in the general area.

Yup, the code 43 is generally plugs and/or wires. The wires on mine looked good on the outside but were chard with carbon and arcing on the inside of the plug boots.
I’m not sure why they have a battery temp sensor I’ve driven my car from -45 degrees to + 110 degrees and never had it code. You would have to have a major short to heat things up to get a battery temp code, I would think you would have other issues prior to the 44 code.
