i cant get my harmonic balancer back on, it a 96 dohc i did all the head gasket, and its like thebolt is to short, i even tried hitting back down with a rubber mallet and nothing any one had this problem. oh and i did go get another bolt and that didnt help either.

i dont think you can use a hammer to get it back on.....it needs to be pressed on so ull need that harmonic balancer installer/puller to get it on. they cost $ 60 to rent at auto zone, and you get your money back when you bring the pulley back

Title says UPD, in the post you say harmonic balancer...which one is it? Stock or aftermarket?

Not really. If its aftermarket, then he can put it in the oven, heat it up, then throw it on there. Can't do that with stock.

Stock crank pulley is not a UDP either.

I found an easy way to do it, after 3 attempts at it. First off...you MUST heat it up in order to get it to slide on there.I used a portable torch and heated in a circle pattern around the bolt for about 15-20 seconds.Then I used an electric impact gun, and to my suprise it drove it right on there... Doing it any other way will lead to frustration and broken tools. Good Luck

o great now i get back on to read it. i took a piec of super fine emery cloth to the harmonic balancer. and no body believed me that the crankshaft swelled. it didnt but thanks for that heating p tip that makes sense.
