Actually, I build splitcase pumps, a multiple stage centrifugal. Priced any billet steel lately? It's gotten plumb stupid. A cnc machine couldmake a spindle in a reasonable amount of time, after you wrote the program, but all of ours are manual.I have a degree in southern engineering, but re-engineering steering parts can get you killed if your not careful.LOL See below.

Well, I just ordered a set of Monroe Max air shocks for the back of my 1985 D150. I was going to get them from Advanced Auto for about $85, but they are no longer in stock. So, I looked around and found them at amazon for $67.49. I know that I should use seperate lines for each shock so that when I go around a corner the pressure doesn't shift from side to side.

I hope they are decent and go with the beltech nitro actives.

Dang, my '81 has 'em and they'll be too long when I get it lowered. I was just going to toss 'em on the shelf and forget 'em. You could have had 'em for $50 or even less, and they don't look too old.
Don't worry about air pressure shift, it takes longer than the time you're in a corner to pass enough air through that tiny air line to affect anything.

You mean turn the rack input parallel to the ground?Sort of. I've considered going through the crossmember at about a 45 deg.angle.The angles on the upper steering shaft U-jointcan get pretty severe, since the column is so far left, compared to a Dak, and those damnable headers are right in the middle of it all. I've even consideredswapping thespindles to rear steer which would have it's own set of cusswords, but the oilpan's in the way anyhow. I've been 2 yrs drinkin' coffee off an on lookin at it. If I went back to fenderwell headers it would curealot of problems. An 1 7/8"weld up header kit is about $250 bucks from Summit, and about a week to build 'em, plus about $200 at the muffler shop for 3" ex. pipes. Chingow. Since the rack I got today is shot, that part of the project will have to wait. Gonna go ahead with the spindle swap, drink some more coffee, and study on the rack idea. B.T.W. Scored an 8 3/4 Sure Grip A-body rear for $150, it's only 55" flange to flange, compared to 64" for the trucks. Dropping the the backend over some 30-13.5 E.T. Streets will be next. I wanna go racin!
I thought about going through also. I don't have that problem with my 225ci, Mother Mopar was kind enough to lean that motor over out of the way of any steering mods.

I am going to be ordering Dakota drop spindles and drop springs for my truck within the next week or two. I think that I am going to go about it a little differnt than most do, instead of reaming the spindle out I'm going to make custom tie rod tubes to accept Dakota outer tie rods plus I willmake the tubes longer to accomadate for the difference in the spindles.

Another interesting idea! We used to make our own stock car tubes out of aluminum tubing, you just need to be able to cut left and right threads. We used a nut on the threaded part turned against the tube to lock it in place.

S&W race cars sells the thick tubing and the rod ends that will slide into the tubing for a sturdy weld. The only thing that has to be done is figure out the thread sizes and whether the threads are left hand or right hand threads.

Thought this over too. The 150 tie rod goes in from the top, the Dak comes in from the bottom. Kinda screws up the angles of the tie rods, if the tie rod isn't parallel with the lower control arm, you'll getsome bumpsteer. The tie rod will travel in a different arc than the control arm. Add in the rearward angle of the 2.75 shorter Dak spindle. Also the Dak tie rod end is female. Could turn down a piece of solid stock, thrd it to accept the Dak end, drill and tap the other for the 150 end. Just not crazy about the geometry. B.T.W. Gotta nuther idea, but I'll wait till I get my spindles in this week and look 'em over first.

I am going to be ordering my spindles and springs tomorrow so when you figure out a good way to mount the tie rods be sure to post it. If I find a good method I will do the same. Has anyone researched the differences in the bearing sizes 72-83 is supposed to have one size bearing and 83-93 is suposed to be different.
