Looking for advice and suggestions
i did a body lift on my 78 ram.... one reason i did it was because i had to switch cabs because the old one was in a light roll over ....anyhow....what i did was a 3 inch body lift kit and all the kit had was the lift blocks and bolts....what i also had to do was ...new steering shaft (it was to short)....redo the brake lines off of the proportioning to master cylinder .....make the gas tank fill hose longer....hmm im sure im forgetting something ....i already had the truck to the frame rails before i did this...you might have to take the front clip off the cab or do some very careful jacking up the body off the frame to nit crease the front clip
i do like it i can fit 33s with no rubbing and i got rid of the rag joint in the steering shaft when i went aftermarket which tightened up the steering.
but i also anna do a 4 inch suspension lift so i can put 38s on it...maybe when the 33s wear out

Hey SlicedTomatoes, do you have 2WD? Just asking because you mentioned a 4" suspension lift. If you do have 2WD, do you have a company lined up? Sounds interesting.
Big D, looks like you have 2WD like I do. There's been a lot of threads on leveling or lifting 1st Gen's. Unfortunately kit wise you are outta luck. But I did find Eaton Springs that can make a 2" lift coil spring for our trucks.

Little pricey but simple and with the small lift it won't be a major hassle to get an alignment or special parts. I switched to Rancho 5000 shocks in preparation. I don't think it's mandatory for 2" but most places recommend shocks made for a suspension lift. In the back you can add a leaf for an inch or 2 if you need it. The big deciding factor is really what you want it for. Putting HD springs is not intended for lift and will give you a stiff ride as a consequence. Cheaper that route for sure because you can get replacement or used springs instead of custom made springs for your application. There are quite a few companies that will make a coil spring for you and they will want to know stiffness and lift amounts you want. Don't be afraid to write some of these guys and shop around. Eaton has a real good FAQ section and I recommend emailing them to tell them what you want to do.
In my case, I am looking for clearance from rocks and ruts and suspension lift will raise the frame. I don't plan on using anything bigger than 32's on mine. Body lift raises the body and not the frame. Clearance for tires and a higher profile looks mean for sure so maybe all you need is the the body lift and if you go small (1-2") it may not affect too much like it did for SlicedTomatoes.
Any one out there do a small body lift with no major mods that will work for Big-D?

i got 4wd....i missed that ..... if i had a 2wd truck i would not suspension lift it...body lift maybe....reason i say no suspension lift on 2wd like sixgun is because of alignment issues....and i dont know of a good kit for 2wd dogdes
i have a lowered 2 inch front and 4 inch rear 95 ram1500 ...its lowered in the front with springs only and in the rear with shackles and fornt rear spring mounts....and ive taken it to shops who wont touch it cause of the springs in the front set the camber/caster angles so outa whack
if you could find a lift kit it would be in the spindles for a 2wd...that way it wouldnt affect allignment.....thats what im going to get for my lowered truck...2 inch drop spindles 500 bucks shesh vs 100 for the springs
