If you are exciting the field coils and the alternator is not putting out voltage the alternator is bad.

are you sure you have the regulator wires on the alternator hooked up correct and don't have them mixed up? also are you sure you wired the regulator right

I recently did a write up on another forum about wiring in an external voltage regulator (PM sent). If I were you, I'd wire the alt. directly to the VR and batt bypassing ALL the factory wiring and see where that leaves you. The 2 lugs on the back of the alt can be switched, but you need to make sure the ign pos is going to the TOP pole on the reg.

Thanks Guy's for all the help! I did rewire the vr but I also added power from the battery straight to the field terminals on the alternator still no change on my meter? I put power to both sides and tried just one at a time still no charge! But with all the testing the br might of got Pope's?guess. I will go get another vr and check and recheck wiring! Any other idea's? Thanks a lot Guy's

The only power going to the alt should be the one heavier gauge wire. The field current wires only go to the VR, with an ign pos on the top pole. The alt should ground through the mounting points. Have you checked your ground wire from the block to the batt? If you can get some pics up, it may help us to diagnose what's going on.

so you ran 12 volts from the battery straight to the 2 terminals on the alternator that are for the voltage regulator? you can not do that and expect it to work. sounds like you must have wired something wrong or have some bad parts.
