Did you do your checks with the wires hooked up? If so, you got the expected results. You will have 12 volts on both field winding connections with the connector on there...

You should be able to make new threads though, have you validated your email address?

Yes I did my check with "wire" hooked up,there is the 1 Batt. wire coming straight off the fuseable link from the battery, and if you look at the pic in the start of this thread, there are 2 other connection on the Gen 2 truck. The 2 nuts on the back of mine if you look at the pic with the cover off,are all connected by that inner aluminum ring.Is that the fields or would it be the only other 2 wires that go to
"my" alt. are in a plug at the top(see pic).Would that be where I need to make my connections or the 2 nuts on the back? The 2 on the 2 wire plug have 6 volts when I test off the large Batt. wire,I'm guessing and figure they are sensor wires going to the PCM.The second pic show the only 3 connections there are on my alt.
And yes I did validate my email addy, but at first could only post to existing threads and not able to start new one for some reason. It's ok now and per Zman's recommendation posted a new thread in the Gen 3 section, but so far no takers

Another post on this thread said one field should have voltage and the other should not.If mine has voltage on all 3 including the main batt. wire,I guess this external regulator mod I'm trying to do is for naught, and can't be done on the gen 3 Rams.

I'm still just guessing here.
Ok first off the nuts on the back there are not your feild connections.
The feild connections are the 2 wire plug shown in your first photo.
Do your checks on those and see what you have.
Here is a link to the manual i uploaded this morning https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B0EB...it?usp=sharing
Download it and check page 8W-80-63 it showes the pinout for your feild connector and its shape.
I see no reason why you cant do this conversion.

Thanks Dave that's what I needed to know, and yes my answers always seem to staring right at me

So these 2 terminals are the fields that go to the external regulator? Correct? And I don't reconnect the main Batt. wire as well?

Yes those are the 2 terminals.
Yes you reconnect the battery wire. It charges the battery.
Look at page 8W-20-2 of the manual and it showes the wire schematics for the charging system.
Page 8F-19 tells how to inspect the system.
By the way what makes you feel you need to do this?
It doesn't sound like you tested your system.

Success Thanks soooo much Dave

The only glitch now is my A/C compressor isn't kicking in,I'm not sure if it's related or not,I can take being a little hot over not having my work truck up and running.

The starter of this thread did ask what to do about the CEL.This kit I used has a FRM(field replacement module)and will prevent the check engine light coming on,and the kit has everything you need to bypass the PCM voltage regulator. Here's the site that sells them:

That is what I was going to post as well, good job!

This is what I would have installed instead:

The typical issue of the "Check Engine Light" being on all the time will be cured with the little yellow resistor in this kit so, you do not have that problem any more. This is for sure the way to go.
