my question will it be worth it? or rebuilt the old 318

Will it be worth it? That is a very subjective question and the answer is in the eye of the beholder. What are you trying to gain by changing the engine and what final use do you have for the truck?
well i just want a mild motor in it..nothing fast...i just figured build the 318 a little..vs buyin the parts to swap to a bb
I've often heard that the 400 was kinda the black sheep of big blocks. More of a dog than a runner... with that said, 400 cubes are 400 cubes, but then again, it may not be worth the hassle. Keep in mind you'll need a big block tranny behind it too.
Swapping in a big block can be expensive. You can save a lot of time and money by getting a motor that is in good running condition and the matching transmission in like condition. With that being said, and money is no problem, here is a previous thread with some links that may be helpful.

fast five oh: Is this a 400 small block or a 400 big block? You have talked about both in this thread.
