Default Exhaust Advice Needed

Ok first off I own a 1992 Dodge Ram D150 with the v6. It is completly factory. But today I decided to buy a Thrush Turbo muffler. So I went home and hack sawed off the old muffler. After I remove the old muffler I decided just to start it up with out a muffler, you know just for the curiousity of what it'd sound like. But the truck is surprisingly pretty quiet without the muffler. Which isn't what I want. I want this truck to be loud. So what I was thinking of doing is either just putting on the thrush turbo. Though I don't know if it'll make it louder or not. My other thought was I'd return the Thrush Turbo and replace it with the Cherry Bomb glasspack. What do you guys here think? What should I do? Any help or advice would be great

-Thanks

I had the same thoughts about my truck with nothing on past the cats. Look into "breaking" the glasspack if you want to remain as close to the straight pipe sound as you can. That means either burning, or heating/cooling/repeating the packing into oblivion. But sadly, I don't think there are really many options here for us.

That sounds complicated lol. I think I'll just get the Cherry Bomb Pro. Cause the Cherry Bomb Extreme may not sound good on a V6. Or will it? But how come these trucks are so quiet with out the muffler? Is it cause of the catalytic converter? Is there anything else I can do to make it louder? Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

i don't know why you would want to make it louder. it would be like putting a sign on your truck that says "cops please pull me over". i know someone that has a loud old chevy and he gets pulled over on almost the weekly bases. never gets a ticket but get pulled over. i have a nice quiet truck never had to talk to a cop.

i think the cats have a big effect on how the exhaust sound. when my v6 had a jeep cat and muffler from a 4L it sound a bit like a diesel and would rattle some windows.

well if it wasnt that loud without the muffler when you started it,your cat. may be partially clogged. most people pull off the cat and if you need it on there they put a high flow cat on. this will also ma ke any muffler you decide to use sound better, anfd flow better. i have a FLOWMASTER SUPER 44 on mine, with a high flow mini cat, dumped before the rear axle.
your v6 will only sound alright at lower rpms. good luck

x2. The cat in itself almost acts as a muffler, especially if partially clogged. I did away with mine a while back and it did make the truck quite a bit louder. With no muffler, your truck might sound cool at idle, but going down the road with anything more than partial throttle, it'll probably sound obnoxious and get old really quick (mine did). I currently have a 50 series flowmaster which gives the 318 a nice low rumble at idle and part throttle, but is still noticeable without unwanted attention under heavy acceleration. My $.02.

since his truck is a 92 is should have a magnum engine. before he goes replacing the cat or muffler he may want to fix the plenum or it would just be a big waste of money doing the exhaust. the more the plenum leaks the more oil is burnt and the faster the cat clogs.

I don't have a reason why I want it louder other than I just like it that way lol. And I'm not worried about the pigs. Let the haters hate.

Hmm I've never thought of putting a cat from another vehicle on it. Cause this truck needs to be legal and pass emissions. But I'll definitely look into this. Thanks
