As far as automatics are concerned, you can't put small block trannies behind big blocks (bell housing is too small). I'm assuming with the manual you're going to have the same problem. I believe the NV4500 is set up with the small block pattern. Maybe there's an adapter available? With enough money anything's possible. There are several 1st Gen's on here with BB's, but I think they all have 727 autos behind them.

I have a feeling all the big block manuals are going to be worth their weight in gold because all the muscle car guys want them. I'd almost bet that assuming the NV4500 you already have will bolt up to a small block, you could build a pretty stout 360, or even a 408 stroker, for what it would cost to find a big block and a 4 speed to put behind it. Just a thought.

From what I've read elsewhere the Lakewood 15335 will work or you could modify a BB 435 bell-housing to work if you could find one.

With 36" tires I hope your looking for D60 axles especially if your going to a BB...

the engine mounts bracket in your truck are made for a big block they will have two sets of holes marked A/B eng if you wanna run a stick you will also have to find a manual trans crossmeber too, the auto crossmemeber wont work. I put a BB in my 87 shorty but the truck was manual already and I was able to find a BB bellhousing and trans for it. I have an aluminum 10 and a half bellhousing Im not using, so if you find a trans I got your bellhousing.

thanks for the link to the bell housing. Now all I need for the major parts is to select/find a transfer case and find either a 383 or 440. I found a 440 out of a rv with 34,000 miles for 400 that runs. Any input on the rv 440's?

I don't think they had more than 200hp or so, but enough torque to pull down small buildings.

The rv 440 work good putt a hemi grind cam in and work the heads and they work very well my dad had one in his race car with the set up i talked about(above) and ran mid 12s (pic of the car in my sig) .That bening said the 400 or 383 will be easer the 440 is wider and you will need a smaler break boster. I just did a 383 swap in my 84 fit like a glove.
