if your plenum is not leaking then you must be leaking the oil from somewhere else like valve covers or the oil pan.

Default Magnum Engine

I want to make sure, and I am pretty sure this is the magnum engine , I am almost certain the plenum gasket is blown, this is 1992 Power Ram 150 318 MFI 4x4.

I drove it for an hour an half trip last night and noticed lack of power up hills, some spark knock, and its using oil. dont know about the throtle response but it could be better. I did the spark plugs four weeks ago, it ran better, it also has a hard time starting.

Side view of truck 1992 Power Ram 150 318 MFI. This should be the magnum engine, if so which kit do I specify from hughes as the years don't go back to 1992 or 1993 that I see to choose from

that looks and sounds like a magnum to me. the hughes kit would work on truck but you can get the aluminum pan on ebay and flexpro gaskets at your local parts store for cheaper than hughes. the guy that sells the pan even gives you the part number for the flex pro gasket.

for 119 dollars at hughes I get the belly pan, new intake gaskets, plenum gasket, radiator bypass hose, thermostat, new bolts, throttle body intake gasket.

I have seen the plate on ebay you talk about. 69.99 after shipping, and by the time you get all the other stuff at your FLAPS I think your right there about the same. I am pricing it out now.

most people are not really satisfied with the the gaskets that come with the Hughes kit. i think there was a guy in the second gen section that actually received a bad gasket and had to have Hughes send him another gasket. i think by the time it is all said and done it might be close as far as prices go.

Default we'll see

We'll see what comes from hughes in a few days. Oddly enough I still am getting pretty good fuel mileage, I think rebuilding the transmission and the overdrive helped a lot. On my fill up today i got 17.9 MPG. I hope its right. Don't know why it wouldn't be though. I also don't get into much.

Alright got everything put back together and no more plume of doom but now my truck idles rougher than it previously did and has a little hesitation when i give it gas. Replaced the plugs with Bosch Platinum IR Fusion +4. Any ideas what it could possibly be?

from what i have read these trucks don't like platinum spark plugs. could also check the idle air control motor on the back of the throttle body. it would have been a good idea to take it out and clean it and the throttle body when you had the intake off but most people don't. could also need a new cat and o2 sensor since the old ones are probably damaged from burning oil.
