Default 93' d-250 trans jumping from 2nd to od

I bought a 93 d-250 with a few issues that im trying to resolve. the truck shifts great through from 1-2, but when it trys to shift into 3rd it seems like theres a faint (very small) binding then goes into od. even on the downshift when slowing down it seems to stay in od instead of shifting to 3rd. i've checked the TPS and at idle its at 1.4 volts , and seems to go through the voltage with the trottle fine without jumping around. i can leave od off and shifts and runs in 3rd fine. Dont know what would cause it to skip 3rd.. would apprieciate the help

whens the last time you had a fluid/filter change on the tranny?

sounds like the bands might need to be tightened

Are you positive it is totally skipping 3RD. If it is shifting into OD immediately after the 2-3 shift the problems could be:

Faulty overdrive solenoid that is not venting properly
Lower valve body malfunction
faulty wiring
faulty computer

You may find this helpful.

its hard to tell it may be shifing into third but it kind of lugs or binds up for a split sec then shifts to od. also dont downshift into third unless you get down really slow. but with od off runs and shift fine.. the od solenoid on top the tranny? and guess it could be a number of faulty wires. im new at working on these so trying to figure it all out lol

so say the valve body is faulty, would it shift perfect (1st thru 3rd) with the od off or would it effect this sequence also? BTW love your quote

It would depend on what is wrong with the valve body but yes that could happen. I would concentrate on the exterior possibilities first as most valve body problems are beyond the scope of shade tree mechanics.
