Just picked this truck up about a month ago. Has an identification number from the state of missouri. No 17digit VIN on the truck. Title has the identification number listed as VIN. Truck is registered. I'm wondering if this truck has to have the clearance lights on the tail gate and also on the cab? Because it has neither. How hard is it to install those on the tailgate? I have found a VIN under wiper cowl on passenger side of truck. That vin comes back to a 1987 150 sweptline? So I'm not sure what's really going on with this truck. Very clean truck with 66,000 miles on it. Cummins diesel also. So I think I did well. Anyone have any insight?

Not stock. 1 ton running gear, and a diesel. 1500's did NOT come from the factory that way. Wonder if the VIN is for a vehicle that donated the cab......
I suspect it was a chassis/cab truck when new, and subsequent owners added the bed later. (so, it actually came with the long wheelbase, diesel, and one-ton running gear....) Think I would look for the seam where the beds were put together.
Nice truck though. Great shape apparently. Low mileage, if you can believe it....... Takes forever to go around corners though.
Yea I didn't think it was stock haha. And I cant seem to find where bed was extended. At least nothing obvious. Which means it was some good body work haha. And yes I'm unsure if it is really 66,000 miles because obviously dash and all was swapped out because vin under cowl says 150 sweptline but dash has cummins logo and what not on it. Engine has no oil leaks or anything. Very clean so I kinda believe the 66k miles. but who knows.
D.O.T. can tell you about the lights. As for the bed, they were never common but Chrysler does, or at least did, have a custom shop. Like Ford's SVO folks, they built custom equipment like the Dodge Sweptline truck in the late 50's. G.M. had similar trucks and they are more common, but still rare. Like others have said, it looks like you have a replacement cab to replace a rotted one.
