Hello All, whats the thinking on valve cover gaskets for our trucks (1983 318)? RTV or none? Truck passenger side is leaking, no doubt it is old as truck came with a replacement gasket set (FEL I think) Rubber best or is there a cork set that works better? Thanks!

 

Rubber/viton is more durable than the cork fellers. Easier to deal with too.

 

Thanks! RTV sealer on gasket or just light film of oil on mating surfaces for our trucks? I will inspect valve cover with straight edge to rule out uneven mating surface

 

I only use a bit of RTV to hold the gasket in place for installation..... other folks have other methods that work fairly well too. (using thread to tie the gasket in place thru the bolt holes, or zip ties, etc.)
