Searching for my Grandpa's 1985 Dodge D150/W150
Years ago you could write/contact DMV and depending on your state they will keep info for some time. But you can't do that now, I have heard what you can try is say you backed up into this vehicle in a parking lot. They then MAY give you the info but with out the tag # it may be suspicious.
A year ago, we traded in a car for a new car.... The dealer ran carfax on our old car. Showed each inspection and who did it. It even showed what it failed inspection for.
If by chance, you see for example ABC service center inspected the 85 dodge truck, on july 5th, then ABC service center may be willing to share owner info.
When I texted my uncle, he didn't respond to it and that was about 2 weeks ago. the last conversation I had with him about the truck was back in October and that's when I learn about it being in a salvage yard. Ill do a carfax today and see what it tells me and ill update yall. as for calling the DMV and asking for the info, I tried that with the tax office that handles some of that info and they said they would not be able to provide me any info.

i don't know about in texas but here when you buy a vehicle or are looking to buy a vehicle you can get a "used vehicle package" it doesn't tell you the persons address but it will usually give the current owners name along with the names of all previous owners and if there is any money is owed on the vehicle. i have bought ones for vehicle without owner ships that i was considering buying. it definitely helps try to find someone if you at least have their name.
