Default 1990 Dodge d150 a535 swap options

Hey guys so I have a 1999 D150 reg cab short bed with a mild 360 in it with a 904 trans in it right now. I’ve been wanting to swap it to a manual for a while and now have an a535 full swap out of another d150 that had a 318. I would love to put it in mine but from reading I have realized it is not a very strong transmission and I don’t want to put it in if I’m just going to break it. So I was just wondering if I can use parts like the linkages, hydro clutch, drive shaft and bell housing of the a535 to swap in a heavier duty transmission. I would definitely prefer a 5 speed so I’d like either a nv3500 or nv4500 but I’m just not sure if it’s possible without breaking the bank.

Skip the NV3500, they never came behind the 360 for a reason.

So would I be able to do a nv4500 without issues?

I would think so. Might be longer than your current trans, so, have to address the driveshaft.

Ok good because I am not sure how much faith I have in the a535 behind my 360. Now what would I have to do if I got a nv4500 off of a 4wd truck? Would I just have to take the transfer case off and put an adapter on?

I don't know if the trans tailshafts are the same between 2 and 4wd, best to get a 2wd trans. Granted, they are fun to find....

Yeah I found a remanufactured one on summit for a 92-93 d150 that I think I can make work but it cost $2k which is a little out of budget at the moment.

Also would the bell housing off of the a535 bolt up to a nv4500
