Default 91 D150 w/A518 Trans Slip Yoke U-Joint

Hi all,

As the title says I've got a 91 D150 with the optional heavy duty A518 transmission, the truck is also the 149" wheel base so 2-piece drive shaft.

I bought new u-joints for the truck which I found are supposed to be Detroit 7260 joints all around (trans to shaft, shaft intermediate, and shaft to diff) so I bought Dana Spicer 5-789X joints. The joints fit exactly as expected everywhere except the transmission slip yoke...

When I was removing the old u-joints I could also not get the u-joint body out of the yoke (caps were out but the body just wouldn't shift enough to pivot out) and I ended up cutting the joint body to get it out. When I went to put in the new I had the exact same problem, the body would not pivot into the yoke. So I measured the yoke and found it to be a little smaller than expected and since this truck had driveline vibration issues I bought a replacement slip yoke. That's just arrived however I am still having the same issue, joint body wont pivot into the yoke, even the yoke manufacture says this yoke uses the 7260 joints...

So my question is, is there any special technique needed for getting u-joints into these slip yokes?
Everything I find says I'm doing it correct and all the part numbers are coming up compatible and measurements are as expected so I'm not sure what trick I'm missing here...

Appreciate any advice

If you are putting it in with no caps how much hits to keep it from going in?

Yep no caps, best case scenario the joint body overlaps by maybe 2mm. But even with that small an overlap there's no overlap so any attempt to "force" the issue causes the valve to start gauging the surface of the yoke and bind up before even getting close...

I don't have the parts with me at the moment however I took a video which I can't upload of course but grabbed a still from that showing roughly how close it is

Try putting the u joint in from the top of the slip yoke and moving it around in different positions.

I've tried every direction I can think of, just didn't appear that way in the screen shot...sorry. I finally got the video converted to a supported format, I promise I try much harder with two hands just doing it one handed for the video to show the different directions I've tried.

It does as far as I can tell, but I'm also not convinced what I took out were original and/or done correctly in the past. I also had to cut the old ones out for the same reason I can't get these ones in. With the yoke I'm using being brand new and the yoke manufacture listing the joints I'm using as the correct ones I'm just at a loss. All the research and measurements I've taken as well have said everything should work...Guess I was also curious how others got on with replacing the trans to driveshaft joint, see if I need to keep looking deeper or what could be going on...

For reference this is the yoke I bought

And then the U-Joints I'm trying to use

I forgot to add, according to what I've found, all 3 u-joints should be the same series. The one's I'm trying to use do fit the other two connection points on the drive shaft (intermediate and shaft to differential), just not trans to shaft connection

Does it fit in the shaft coming TO the trans? Wonder if it's just the wrong slip yoke.....

But, the other one had to go in there somehow.....
