Hey, I recently got a 4spd manual tranny out of a 88 dodge ram. I was wondering if there was any way I could make this tranny more suitable for racing conditions versus the low speed high torque conditions it was set up for. I like the idea of a 4 spd standard set up for racing. Also does anybody know if this would bolt up to a 92 or newer 318 magnum engine? Thanks!

 

Anybody???? I heard that I might be able to swap gears from an older racing tranny such as a challenger or something to the 4 spd.

 

a company called gear vendoors (http://www.gearvendors.com/racing.html#4-speed) makes a over drive unit that bolts on to the back of the tranny, and is manually activated from a button and can be used for any gear, this way you you can have faster speeds with the same gears in the tranny. and its proven reliable to 1200 hp. so maybe it might be something worth chacking into.

 

So, this set up is basically a clutchless overdrive? Sounds interesting wish they were a little more clear.

 

yeah, its relly pretty cool, i seen it featured on extreme 4x4 on speed channel. its handy as hell acting as a gear between gears, for more towing force. gould make a 4sp into a 8. the only tihng im not a fan of is that to put it on a 4x4 it would have to go behind the transfer case, so it wouldn't work in 4 wheel.

 

I like that gear vendor thing. I'll probably take it into consideration when i start throwing all this stuff on my truck.

 

If you can't use it in 4x4 it kinda takes away the purpose of it. [&:]

 

im not to worried about that portion, my truck already crawls real slow, i got the 4sp granny. but what i think in my case it would be worth it too use it as a 5th gear for when im going down the highway. its i think like a 20% overdrive or something. might save me some beans at the pump and some wear and tear on the motor.
