driving with od off
Yea, i think my engine is getting tired at 171k and no rebuild. I also think im on a junkyard tranny that was thrown in because it is starting to go. I dont have any records of the previous owner replacing it so i would assume its not on its orig tranny at this high of mileage.
Its not throwing any codes, tried a code reader and the cyclic check, so i really don't know whats up with it haha. Maybe i should up the tire pressure a bit! had to let a little out on the way up the mountain!

she still runs very good. it gets a lil tired heading up the highway into the mountains, but i can keep it up at 60-65. Just the mileage sucks, but i really dont know what gas tank I have. I assumed I have the 24 or 26 gallon because its a quad cab, not sure tho.
I need to get my build sheet.

OD is designed to save gas on long, flat stretches of roads like here in the San Luis Valley in Colorado. However, once you hit the mountains, it's time to turn it off unless you want to listen to the tranny shift and the engine rev.....

Just going over some (taller) hills with cruise set to 70, my truck kicks to 2nd every once in a while.
With OD on (normal mode), I'm getting about 7-9 mpg city. I haven't tested with OD off. My highway going from Ft Worth to College Station and back, was a 22 MPG highway average at 65-75 MPH on cruise. (265/70-16 tires)
Pulling our empty car hauler, I run with OD off, and it never leaves 2nd. Scary feeling running 3200 RPM's pulling a 2400ish pound trailer. Trailer just shoves my truck along once I start engine braking, before i hit the brake pedal.

i found that driving with od off my truck feels much better. throttle response is way better than od on. in the city atleast. what do you guys prefer? driving at 50mph rpms are at like 2 grand vs just over 1k. so when you punch it there no lag. plus it sounds epic when you back off the throttle and it uses some engine braking.
It was really nice having a manual this weekend driving in the mountians, full of 15% grade and hairpins.
