Default driving with od off

i found that driving with od off my truck feels much better. throttle response is way better than od on. in the city atleast. what do you guys prefer? driving at 50mph rpms are at like 2 grand vs just over 1k. so when you punch it there no lag. plus it sounds epic when you back off the throttle and it uses some engine braking.

I'm partial (due to forgetting to disengage it) to leaving the O/D on always.
it starts up automatically when I turn over the ignition and I neglect to turn it off.

Ultimately it's my understanding that in the city there's really no need for it to be enabled, since you're rarely over 65km/h (40mph)

The response with O/D off is great, and I really should disengage it more often, since I'm usually between 25 - 40 mph on my way to / from work daily.

I drive everywhere with OD off pretty much except when i hop on the highway. Less shifting=better gas mileage. at least ive gotten a 3 mpg diff.

I always forget to turn it off when I'm in town. I'm going to make an effort to start doing this

What is the highest MPH one should drive with O/D Off? My truck when pulling a lawn (1,600 pounds) trailer barely stays in O/D unless im going down hill. Would it hurt the tranny to drive at 65mph with o/d off for extended periods? I ask because I need to go pick up a generator trailer that weighs 2,100 pounds in GA and it will be 300 miles there and 300 miles back pulling the trailer on I-75.

No it wont hurt it. It will actually be better for it to keep it out of OD when towing and at low speeds, theres no need for RPMs to be below around 1700 when cruising, you're likely to use more gas doing this because you're lugging the engine.

You will burn up your transmission if you tow with Overdrive turned ON. Whenever you tow anything past a couple of passengers in your cab, you should turn overdrive OFF.

What about driving at high speed for extended periods with O/D off? As I said I have planned a 6 hour 300 mile trip towing 2,100 pounds and It would be nice to drive the speed limit of 65mph. Is 65mph to fast to drive with o/d off?

u will burn through gas faster b.c you will be at like 2,5k rpms. but i dont think it will hurt the tranny.
