Default R/T Rims... what a score

Scored me some R/T Rims for Pearl.

They have some sh** rubber on them, and they need a clean up, but I managed to get 'em for $100.

Not too bad, considering most end up selling for ~$700+ here.

After some thought...

I intend to paint my stock rims in the summer, with PB3 (Same color as the truck), to see how they look anyone have some advice for getting it done.

I've seen this done once, here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dbG8MWGaGrg

I was hoping to get a reply back from this guy but I dunno.

For anyone else here who has painted their rims... (other than the plastidip stuff)
Essentially... what I want to know is...

1. do I have to sand/prime first?
2. do I spraycan or powder coat?
3. if spray, how many cans / pints / quarts?
4. how many coats?
5. did you use clear coat?, if so how many cans / pints / quarts?
6. is there anything else I should keep in mind?

Short of that I was considering doing it to the RT Rims once they're cleaned up too. But I wanted to test on the Stocks first.

id say it'd be the same thing as painting anything else, just rough up the surface with a scotch brite pad making sure to get rid of any grime, brake dust, or polish. then depending on how u want them to look would depend on what/how many coats u use, if u are looking for a glossy look id prolly go with a light coat of color, then 1-2 med coats making sure it looks even, then prolly 2-3 coats of clear

Appreciate it. I figured that's what the route would be but wanted to get some input to confirm.

Thanks,

quoted @ $60 / rim by the body shop I go to for all my work.
(not including the cost of the paint)

I have no idea how much I'd need.

is that quote for powdercoating? if so i'd take that deal powdercoating looks great if you want a gloss finish. i know a guy around me with the stock 16'' wheels he powdercoated black, they match his truck good.

Yea, I was going to go gloss black originally, but then I saw the intense blue pearl on the rims and couldn't get that out of my head.

So likely I'll do the stock rims in the blue, and the R/Ts in the black... or vice versa.

and yea, the quote was for powder coating.

I would go with powdercoating over paint its more durable. Fortunatley my best freind does powdercoating out of his garage all i have to do is buy the powder for him and he is going to do mine for me while im in afghanistan.
