filter holds .3 or so and you can get different filters so they just tell you what the pan holds below the crank to be full

 

i just fill the pan to full then run the truck for a minute or two, then turn it off and top off the oil level, and leave it there pretty much, usually takes 4 quarts to do all of that, and i usually dont have to add more as it is about right from just putting the 4 into it . . . but thats just our trucks, actually both of our 3.9s
