How many quarts?
Ok, i did the oil change and we put in 4.5 quarts. My friend is in auto tech at LCTI (Lehigh career technical institute) here in allentown, pennsylvania. And he looked on a program called, "ALLDATA." And it said that our trucks (those equiped with a 5.2l) take 4.5 quarts.
I put 6 US Quarts in my Dakota when I replace the filter, but I have the 2004.

Filter is always included in the total. If the truck takes 5qts dont put in an extra .2 for the filter, the filter is already factored in. If you over feel the oil, you will blow smoke and have bad oil pressure.
A Rule of thumb i always go by is.. if your not sure, put 4qts in it start it for 10 secs (to get the oil in the filter) check it.. if it needs more then add more. never just put in what you think it is. Start with 4 and go from there.
Edit: But just to let you know the 3.9 5.2 and 5.9 all take 5qts, give or take a little. Bo less then 4.5 no higher then 5.5
