Im not saying that the Mustang is a bad car. With the right engine it is a killer. But his 289 is rated at
195HP@4400rpm
258TQ@2200rpm
Weight upwards of 3000LBS

Dakota 318
230HP
325TQ
Weight of 3481LBS

By numbers it looks good but he doesn't have 31s or have a 1-1/2 ground clearance either. Im sure your dad would laugh. I'm laughing, I just wanted to see everybodys thoughts, and it looks pretty mixed. I kinda don't think i'll win, but I don't like to back down.

It's somewhat hard to tell by ear - there's a fine line between a built motor that's on the ragged edge of not being streetable and a motor that's about to puke a rod. They can sound really similar, especially if the dying one has a decent exhaust.
I was thinking the same thing. It might sound like crap because of a wild street cam. Just make sure it is bone stock.

I have been challenged to race a 1968 Mustang with a 289 that is stock. The race is for money and would not like to lose. My truck did 17.5, before I got new sparkplugs, wires, cap and rotor, and supercoil. The person I am racing has never raced in his life andonly wants to race me because I told him there are better cars than his. Just seeing what you guys think.
If it is the 289 hypo it will eat you for beakfast.
I had a 65 with the 289 hypo back in 65 and it took a well built big block with slicks to take it.

PS remember they have stroker kits now that can give you up to 427cuin in the small block ford

Yea there are a lot of things that can be done, but this guy can't afford it. He got this car from his grandpa and he says its bone stock 289, so ill take his word for it. If itisn't staockand he didn't tell me then he is an A$$ HOLE. I'll have somebody video tape the race and get up close video of both my Dakota and his Mustang.

The 289 hypo was an option and could be cosidered bone stock.
Beware of sleepers.
I do a lot of betting but I never ever gamble.

Just like one time I bet a guy that 45cuin Harley could beat his Vincent Black Shadow.
He thought I was talking about a WL but I showed up with a KRTT and blew him away.

The 289 hypo is rated conservitively at 271hp.
The is the motor Carol Shelby put in the early cobra's that killed the ferrari's on the track.
