Default Racing a 68' Mustang with 289

I have been challenged to race a 1968 Mustang with a 289 that is stock. The race is for money and would not like to lose. My truck did 17.5, before I got new sparkplugs, wires, cap and rotor, and supercoil. The person I am racing has never raced in his life andonly wants to race me because I told him there are better cars than his. Just seeing what you guys think.

First of all, do it on the track, not on the road. Second of all, don't do it for money, do it for beers...assuming you're old enough to drink.

It depends on what tranny he got, how well his car has been maintained, how heavy his car is, the list goes on. I think it would probably be pretty close either way.

Trucks aren't meant for drag racing though, his car is. You should tell him that in order to make it a fair competition that a tug o' war needs to take place after the drag race. If he says no to that then just ask him if he is scared that your vehicle is better than his. You can't base your opinion of wheather or not a vehicle is better by a drag race. Tell him that you want to drag race him with a 5,000 pound trailer hooked to the back of each vehicle. See where I'm going with it here?

I would love to get beer. But, I would rather have money. What kind of time do think the Mustang can run. I would love race him with my Camaro, but he wants to race the truck so... It would just be awesome to beat that car with a 4x4 with A/T tires.

That would be a intersting race..... Since your both heavy as hell lol but what you got under the hood of your truck? The 5.2 magnum? or the 4.7?

I have a feeling that the mustang will take you. Horsepower to weight, I think it is pretty simple. I wish you the best of luck though. It will definately be close.

The Stang is completely stock. I've seen his car and it doesn't sound good. His carb needs to be tweaked, because it sounds like it can barely run. He says its 95% restored, but it don't look it. I will give it a chance. What the hell I'll offer him a tow home after his Ford breaks down.

I'd do it man just know how to orace your truck from a stop you shift down from D1 then let er rip dude I swear if you win and have someone tape it I'll give you a ****in cookie because a Bone Stock 289 isn't **** at a stop it needs to be rolling and at highway speeds you can take him from th take off and maybe if there isn't alot of wind waying the back down then maybe from the stree. I know I raced a VW Beetle Turbo and I whooped its *** on the street because you gotta shift right
