Default Exhaust

1998 Dodge Dakota Sport (318 V8)

Currently has a cat-back system with a Magnaflow muffler. The truck has a great tone to it, Definitely louder than a flowmaster, and IMO sounds better, However it's not the loudest truck around.... I'm wondering how straight pipes wold sounds, with a Y pipe right after the cat, so I can still run with 2 tips. Any ideas?

Right now, i have the stock ypipe and cat, running a 1 to 2 flowpro muffler, with a large dump dump right before the muffler, very loud at any range of rpm. with great throttle response i can tap the gas and scare people with my exhuast.. but i want it louder. Btw i have gibson shorties on mine to.

but if you want it real loud, just go straight pipes and get a x pipe with 2 dumps.. or if you want it muffled get 2 F/m and then dump them.. either way it would be outragously loud.

I plan on deleteing my cat, and getting a custom side exit exhuast made for mine, and have 2 electic dumps for each side.. so at a switch in the the cab i can make my truck rumble the ground.

Go for an "H" pipe. I've heard one on a 69 chevelle that had me grinning ear to ear!

What is everyones deal with "loud" exhaust?? I just dont understand why "loud" is good. I would much, much rather have an exhaust set up that deliveres crisp, clean, screaming, enginey sound. I would deffinatly sacrifice sound volume for sound quality.

And yeah- straight pipes would be loud. that is for sure. want em even louder, cut off the cats!

my son has a 01' Ram and he removed the muffler and ran a Y with daul tips and to be honest it is LOUD and really pisses the neighbors off because he sets off there alarms when he goes thru the alley and even in a parking lot like walmarts he can set off alarms
as for removing Cats i dont understand how you can do this without reducing gas milage drastically

Yeah i'm doin it on tuesday.. If you had to compare it to something would would it sound like? I guess what i'm asking is explain the tone of the exhaust as a bystander that he would drive by.

it has a very deep solid rumble to it and when he gets into it ,it has the very nice raspy crack to it all i can say is it sounds real good for not having mufflers on it
just remeber to NOT go bigger then 2.5" for each tailpipe it will defeat your purpose and not scavange correct and can and will hurt performance
