Default New to Dakota's and forum

Just got a 1999 Dakota 4x4 SLT w/ the 5.2 motor, and found this forum. Looks like a pretty good resource for all things Dakota. Just wanted to say hi, and see what people had for suggestions for tires.

I'm putting new upper and lower ball joints in the front as they were bad when I bought the truck. I'm thinking about switching tires as the fronts are shot, and a little big for my uses. Currently it has the 15x8 rims w/ 31x10.5 R15 tires on, and I wondered if moving to a more passenger-like 235/75R15's would yield a better ride, or affect anything adversely on the truck.

Totally un-related, but I also wondered if anyone made a cup-holder that fit into the center console at all. That's the one thing I miss from moving from a sedan to a truck, and I'd love to find something to put my drink in while I'm on the road.

Anyway, thanks in advance for any advice!

-Matt

welcome to df...

personally I dont like the BFG's... I've slid into intersections more than once with my 2nd gen ram on wet pavement...

I currently have Pro Comp Xtreme AT's and am really happy with them. they have never let me down under any circumstances... snow, shallow mud, loose powdery dirt and sand... on top of that, I bought them used with about 1k miles on them and now have 47k and they are still going strong.

Welcome to the forum, and don't let Steve bad-mouth the BFG's to much! Not only would moving to more of a passenger style tire give you a better ride, but it would produce a little better mpg; assuming you would go with something more along the lines of a 29" tire.

Thanks for all of the replies so far, it's greatly appreciated. I'm definately going to go with the 235/75R15's then, they'll be a little bit smaller tire (according to a converter I found, about 28.8x9.25, rather than 31x10.5).

Also about the cup holder - my truck definately doesn't have one. Was this a stock feature that was probably removed/lost by the previous owner? If so, could I just head out to the dodge dealership and order a new one? Anyone got a pic of what they look like exactly?

Did you have the A/Ts? Cuz I slid into an intersection once with my crappy radials. Winter sucked...bad. I just got the A/Ts now and it's like..10 times better. I'm no longer paranoid in the rain. The rears used to spin a lot at nothing, drove me nuts. I didn't have a heavy foot either.

the smaller tire will screw your speedometer up,
I went with 30's in the front only and mine is off enough to lead to a quick ticket.
