Default dropping some weight

Has anyone tried to remove some weight from their truck? My extended cab V-8 clocks in at roughly 4300 pounds, which is a little heavy. I drove a standard cab V-6 which was faster from 0-20 than my R/T. It ziped around parking lots with a lot more gusto, which I attribute to a lower curb weight.I have considered ways to cut weight, like going from power to manual windows and drivers seat, aluminum heads, fiberglass hood, ext. Anyone had any sucess in this area?

the manual windows/seat won't cut much more than a pound or two.
the hood would help some, dosen't the R/T already have aluminum heads?

I'd spent the same $$ on an exaust and intake, or just 4.10 gears. to increase your power/weight ratio
shaving weight without spending gobs of money on a truck is not easy .

they say 100lbs is a tenth 50lbs unsprung (wheels/tires) is a tenth ive seen people strip the interiors for 50-70lbs on cars and its just not worth it. it looks like crap its loud as hell and you gain next to nothing andR/T dakotas do not come with alluminum heads

Its a TRUCK, not a sports car. If you want a light vehicle, buy a miata.

Really the only thing you could do is replace the hood, fenders and bed with fiberglass panels if they are even available.

I just wish more was done in the relm of sport trucks. There isnt even a compact truck left on the market anymore. If the 2nd gen was still on the market today it would be the smallest truck made. I'm looking at buying an early 90s toyota pickup (pre-tacoma) with a four banger and a manual, suping it up and autocrossing it. I think that a small truck can be a great base for sports car like performance if you can keep them from slapping four doors on it!

And the Miata is suprisingly heavy for its size, something like 3600 pounds. I can't drive one because I'm 6 foot 6.

ya glass works unlimited has the best fiberglass panels for the 2nd gens. plus the way the fenders are set up it just makes them look even better with prerunner fenders.

They are nice. I am still thinking about the fiberglass front and rear transformation. I just can't justify spending that kind of money on fiberglass though. With how expensive they are, they should be a carbon twill.

Well if you're 6'6 you wont be fitting in a tiny little Toyota either. Im 6'5 and my buddy had an 91. Talk about a tight fit with two guys over 6'3. You'd be surprised how much leg room little sports cars have. My dad is 6'8 and has a 96 Nissan 300 ZX. Put the seat all the way back and he fits really nicely and he is all legs
