Default O2 sensors on 1999 Dakota

Hi all - does anyone have/know where I can find step-by-step instructions on replacing the O2 sensors on a 1999 Dakota? What would be really great is if there was a diagram somewhere out on the internet that I could follow, but if not, instructions, along with tools I'd need, would be great!

Thanks!
Steve

you need a special socket specifically just for O2 sensors. (has an open slot down the side for the wiring) otherwise its gonna be a tough job.

Wait till the pipes are cool enough to touch without burning yourself. Unscrew the sensor from the pipe, tie the plug end of the new sensor to the old sensor and pull it outto where it plugs into the main wiring harness. install the new sensor making sure it is tightly screwed into place, then plug in the connector and you are done.

Thanks for the reply....I'll make sure to get the required socket. I am confused on something you mentioned ("...tie the plug end of the new sensor to the old sensor "). Forgive me for not understanding (this is all completely foreign to me - I'm definitely a newbie!), but I don't understand why I'm connecting the new sensor to the old? Aren't I getting rid of the old sensor? I'm probably just not understanding your wording!

You don't need a special socket, unless the o2 is really stuck. You can just use a really big wrench, Which is what I did, and you can use a hammer if needed. I think the plug he means leave it in until you are ready to plug the old one into the plug. Once you have the o2 screwed in and tightened then unplug the old one and plug the new one in.

Also make sure to disconnect your negative battery terminal.

Yeah even an adjustble wrench works great, that's all i used, once it's loose you can take it out by hand usually.

you will need the socket if the o2 is in a tight spot. You can also try cleaning it if it doesnt have too many miles on it. CRC electronic components cleaner sprayed in the exhaust stream holes will clean it up and help it perform better, longer.

If I were you, I would clean them all first and see if that helps. Electronics cleaner can be purchased at a local Radio Shack or equivelant.
