Default New owner 99 r/t MAYBE

Ok i have a 97 z28 with an electrical problem that a guy wants to trade his 99 black rc r/t for. It looks pretty nice its got a small dent a scratch where a trailor hitch behind the rear wheel well. its got 63k miles. The only mods are an aftermarket muffler with stock exhaust and an intake(not sure what brand). What you guys think? is this a good year? Also how fast does it run with some of the basic bolt ons? what size tire can i fit on the stock r/t wheels on the back?

stock a regular cab R/T should run high 14's. Just make sure it's a real R/T and not someone trying to pull a fast one on you by putting R/T wheels and stickers on a 5.2. if the vin has a Z in it, it's a real R/T. If I had that choice, I would definately take it. If you want to make it really fast, a cam swap is probably the cheapest way to gain decent power.

any type of Regular Cab R/T is a great deal. They made so little of them they are hard to find. I would kill for a black RC R/T 99 is a good year to, it doesn't have the 3 cat setup, and the PCM can be swaped out no problem, its eaiser to find parts for a 99-00 then the 01-03 r/t.

Mopar parts are more $ yes, but you can find good deals everywhere you look on dodge forums, i got a 450$ TB for 200 shipped, parts are everywhere.

Plus to those black r/ts look mean as hell if you debadge them and get your lights and **** tinted.. an all black truck is nice.... but my Bright White still owns. I love it.. and i miss it, still in the ****ing shop getting fixed.

Ty for repleys. I got another guy offering me a 2002 gsxr 600. Im pretty sure if the guy makes the trip im going to take the bike but i think i might like the truck a little as well.

User2006- i agree and those would prolly be the first mods i do unless i dont like the exhuast the guy has on it.

I am very use to chevys and the prices. Mopar is an expensive taste. How much roughly is cam swap on the r/t? and do i have to do any headwork or springs and what not to make it worth it?

you can do your own cam work, if you know what your doing... getting it tuned is the problem, SCT is a new way to get a custom tune, some people call it a standalone, but its not, but you get total access to the PCM and can change EVERYTHING down to the fine tuning. I think to do it yourself with all the software and handheld it cost like 2k i think, but if you just take it to a shop and do it, they charge anywhere from 300-700$ depending on the place.

But since this is out now, SCT, Dodge now has what Ford and Chevy have had forever, we use to always have to use PCM swaps and "tunes in a can" bull crap. But now we can have custom setups, and that means a Custom cam. Meaning WAY more power.

I think it would be fun to have a dakota now, since we now have the SCT tuning. You can do anything you want to the truck and have it tuned now.

You can find cams that work with the factory 1.6s rockers, but having a cam and not heads you wont get the full potental from the cam, unless someone here knows a cam that works perfect on the stock heads.. i woundn't know. I havent worked with any cams yet on my truck, i plan on it.... but the last 2 months have really sucked and im in dept right now so no more moding my truck for awhile...

Wow, thats awesome that we have the SCT now. Must be pretty new now. My mechanic told me the that is the reason not to do a dodge because of the issue with the comp but with that, wow thats awesome...

ya its new. I think its benn out for like maybe 1 or 2 months. Whats cool about it is that you can have fine tunes sent to you over the internet from a tuner so you dont even have to go to the shop to do it, you can do it yourself if you have a wideband and know how to fine tune stuff.

A guy on my other forum named "AIR RAM" has taken his truck to the track and ran it, and had like 5 fine tunes sent to him within 20 min and was able to upload them to his truck and run it and see how it worked... NEVER leaving the track, and the best part you pay for the first tune and the fine tunes are free.. depending on where you go.
