Won't Start! Now with funny smell!
That's it, really. Have a 2000 Dak, 3.9, auto, 4x4. Lately been having a problem with the electrical~~key-off drain somewhere, so that if it goes undriven for even 2-3 days, the battery's gone. Can't find it, neither can a shop. But that's not why I'm here. =)
THIS problem is totally different. Now she just won't start. Full battery (on the charger nearly 24 hrs). It's cranking, but it won't turn over. And when I'm done trying to start it, there's a funny smell, kind of like that propellant smell you get when an aerosol can is about empty.
Any ideas? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

Mayhap I am confutzing my terminology. It tries to start, but won't catch. Occasionally, it'll ALMOST get it, (vroo--*)but then it just goes back to that annoying "no-I'm-not-going-to-start" rumrumrumrum.
check your fuel pressure at the rail, on the rail, drivers side towards the back there's a plastic cap. unscrew the cap and you'll see a schrader valve. turn the key to the on position but dont start it. then using something small and a rag press in the schrader valve, if gas sprays out you got fuel pressure. if not then it's something before that. have you checked for codes? could be a bad TPS sensor.
I'll try that. No codes at all. UPDATE: on further screwing around, it was found that the fuel pump IS engaging, but ol' Bessie's getting no gas. I mean NO gas. Not even the aroma thereof. I'll try that valve bit and get back.
Update #2. Nope. NO pressure through the evap test valve. So it must be aft of that. We (the dad-in-law) and I were thinking either the filter or a clogged line.

filters are in the tank, hard to believe it would completely clog all at onceunless someone poured sand in your gas tank or something. you'll have to drop the tank to figure out anything though.
When the key is turned, you can hear the pump engage. No flow, though. (Woo! Assonance!)
The shop has it now. Hopefully they can figure it out short of dropping anything, being as that is many simoleons.[:@]
