No CB here. Didn't know anybody still played with them.5 watts output-am. Got Icom 2meter FM-5-25-55 watts out thru a glass mount antenna on back window.
Have had ham license for 15 years-

I'd be careful as using any radio on the amateur radio bands without a proper amateur radio license, could net you a $10000 fine. The Fcc just loves to make examples of cb users who modify their radios for out of band use. Amateur Radio operators love helping the Fcc in finding people who do that. The Fcc recently came down hard on many cb radio manufacturing companies as well as dealers for selling cb's that could be modified or that had been modified for out of band use. Gregg

I have an OLD unit in my dakota, had it in the dually before. Has 3 weather bands plus CB and the little 2 ft antenna from walmart. Mounted the CB in the front bench jump seat (nothing else fits there, why not?) so the center console can still close down fully (you cant tell I have a CB), got a cig lighter adapter fom rat shack and ran the power leads to it (again, when unplugged, you can't tell I have a CB), then ran the antenna feed through the hinge in the back of the console to the back seat, where i have the antenna sitting next to the back seat sandwiched between the seat and wall on the drivers side. (again, you cant tell it's in there)I get decent coverage for being inside the vehcile and down low.

Got my first CB in '64, a 6 channel chrystal controlled Sonar. Back then, there was hardly anyone on the air. In the '70's had sets in both custom vans plus a base in the house. The one in my van would dead key @ 200 Watts and talk at 175 Watts. Haven't used a cb since the 70's. Still have 3 or 4 mobile sets and the base around here somewhere. All 23 channels. Couldn't see much use in 40 channels when i only used 2 or 3.

i was considering a handheld one, but then thought that the range on them would probably suck so i havnt gotten one ive got a set of 2way radios with a rediculus range on them that we use on car trips
i've got a couple of the GE hand helds that i bought on ebay for about $15. they will work line of sight up to a few hundred yards. they'll do a little better with an external antenna up on the roof. the only real problem with them is the clutter of wires once you get a cig lighter plug and antenna both attached, and you have to pick up and hold the cb and wires when you use it. its ok, but a mounted unit is a LOT better.
