any1 still use a cb?
i've got a big cobra 29 NW-WX and a 2ft firestick mounted on the front corner of the bed, on a 3" spring (it fits under the garage door). if all you want to do is chit-chat with your buddies, the best thing i've seen for the money is the $34 small cobra at wal-mart. we didn't have very good luck with the little 1ft magnetic mount antennas sitting on the top of the cab or the tool box. on the top of the cab they were always getting knocked off by garage door or tree limbs. on the tool box it was fair, but not good.
i have a 29 classic w. talkback and a echo board, peaked and tuned www.galaxyradio.com tis wherei got it, then i had it peaked... here localy i dont think they cell cb's anymore on that site..
Cobra 19 DX. That's the cheap compact for $30-40. I have it mounted below the dash, just above the center console with a portable magneticbase antenna. Don't talk on it much but do listen a lot on cross country road trips. Great reception and good for getting traffic reports and speed traps.....
I will upgrade the antenna. Like mentioned earlier, on the roof isn't a great location due to trees and garages.....

I've got a 29 LTD Classic. Same thing,; Peaked & tuned, Talk-back, One flip of the emergency channel-9 switch
puts me back to channel 19.
The antenna is mounted to my Tonnuo-cover aluminum bed rail. That way, I didn't have to drill thru any part of
my truck. Just the aluminum rail behind the rear window more twards the drivers side. It's a whip-type antenna with the glycol in it, on a clear glass tube.
(Forget the name of it). Then, the coaxal cable drops between the cab and bed thru a grommet on the back of the cab,
under the carpet and up front to the CB.
As for the CB,.. I really don't like the idea of mounting it to the dash some place so, I just have it wedged between the pass seat and the
arm-rest for now. It doesn't move, it comes out real easy and, I also use a plug-in to the Power-out-let for power to it.
I guess if I was to mount it anywhere, it would be to the floor with the face up to the roof on the center hump.
I use it all the time in bad weather,.. Info on where the cops are and, directions if traveling.
While cell-phones and GPS devices have ate-away at the use for a CB there is still plenty, if not most of the Truckers out there STILL
using them. They are nice to have.

i was considering a handheld one, but then thought that the range on them would probably suck so i havnt gotten one ive got a set of 2way radios with a rediculus range on them that we use on car trips

I've also got two hand-held CB's by G-E.
The range is horrible,.. But the CB shop
I go to said he can peak & tune those also.
Said if I were to use a outside antenna, they would be
pretty darn good also. (Don't know if I'm ready to spend
40 bucks a piece to have them tweeked right now though).
