Default flowmaster 40 too loud inside?

I have a 2004 QC 4X4 4.7l an want to add an aftermarket exhaust. After reading a ton of articles about exhaust, it seems that the flowmaster 40 is a favorite. I did listen to many outside recording and love the sound. I know I will love it when I am driving by myself, but I am concerned about the inside sound level sincethis truck is also our "family" truck. In other words, is the FM 40 or super 40 "family friendly" or is it just going to be too much? if it is the case what else would you guys recommend (50 series...less loud inside but is it loud enough outside?)
Any inside sound recording available?
Thanks in advance

mine was straight piped and not that loud, now if you had a 1yr old and romped on it it would wake him/her up... just dump it out the back, not under the truck..

2004dakota:

Great question. I am in the same situation. The truck is what I primarily drive, but I do haul the family on occasions.A new high flow muffler is my next upgrade but I don't want it to be too loud. My wife already complains that my current muffler ( stock w/ 86k on it?) is too loud and the last thing I want to do is get a new one that is even louder. Flowmaster 40 series seems to be very popular and what I was leaning towards, would like input from anybody who already has one. Thanks All.

The 40 series is pretty loud, but then again thats what its made for. The 50 series (which I have) is great. You get all the rumble when stomping on it, but is ALOT more mellow when just idle/cruising. I chose the 50 series so my radio and muffler wouldnt be dueling for who's louder.

i know what you need. You should get the flowmaster 40 series delta flow. with that you have the loud agressive sound on the outside. and its quiter inside.

Default No, its perfect

I went and bought a 50 series first, my wife couldnt even tell the difference. i think it could be used as a stock replacement in some situations and you could hardly hear it inside. i took the truck back, they were cool and put in a 40 series no charge. its cheaper than the 50 but they didnt charge me the labor. The dodge interior is very quiet and with a 40 series you can hear the exhaust but its not at all overbearing. 40 is the way to go

i have the 40 series on my 2004 regular cab and radio or talk with another person is not a problem at all.once you get up around 85-90 it starts to get a little tougher to hear the radio, but that is why there is a volume ****.of course,i like listening to the pipes.

I started with a 50, and like Kirby said you could barely tell the difference unless your foot was in it. My opinion... definately the 40.
