Car Starter
i just went to Best Buy and had them install a viper car starter system with keyless entry. My first mistake was having them do it, but it was a christmas gift so i didn't really have a choice. Some how they messed up my power locks and the switches on the door didn't work or the key fob. they fixed one of the switches for now but didn't want to hook up the key fob basically because he was to dumb to find the right wire. I brought the truck home and tested wires and found the correct wires to splice into.
Now my question is, does anyone the wire colors on the viper system for the power locks? The model number of the system vx160. Thanks in advance for the help.

If your truck is an 01, you'll need some resistors to do the locks. You can't just hook up wires to it. You truck uses the same wire for lock and unlock. Lock is a negative through an 820ohm resistor, and unlock is a negative on the same wire through a 330ohm resistor. The wire is White with a Green stripe in the driver's kick panel.
Oh and you should definatly use relays. Just using the wires right off the remote starter might not have enough "nut" to actually activate the locks by themselves.

here is another issue though. the locks are aftermarket locks. i bought the truckwith them already in. when best buy installed the viper system they hooked up the locks and burned up the relays. so they replaced and said they weren't hooking up the keyless entry because they basically didn't know what to do. When they replaced the relays he wired in two for the driver side, now that lock switch works for both sides but the one on the passenger side doesn't. i have another appointment to get that one fixed, he said he was gonna have to basically bridge the two doors together. When i got home i took the door panel off and found the wires at the harness for the switch. i took a test light and it lit on one wire when you hit lock and another when you hit unlock. but i can't find the keyless entry wires on the viper system, am i still going to need resistors? if so, what exactly am i going to need and how would i go about doing it?
I think you mean the Viper system 160xv ? The power door locks wires are blue for + lock and - unlock, and green for - lock and + unlock. I don't know about the aftermarket door locks. Do you know what brand they are ? I have the installation manual on PDF7 if you need it.
hell take it back most likley since BEST CRAP installed it its a major rats nest with 45890 zip ties and a bunch of innapropriate wire junctions, heat shrink, tapits ect, ur rite NEVER go to best buy or Circuit city
Ull never figure it out other problem is its a DEI alarm
thats anothter story tho

I agree with imnothot02.......Some of those High School kids, "installers", they hire, can't read. I still have the installation manual on PDF if you need it though. Click my name in red letters, send me email with your email address, and I'l try to email it to you. It is I think43 pages.
Ok, so does your truck have factory power locks? Not keyless, but just power locks? Meaning are the buttons on the door for the locks factory or aftermarket? Iffactory then you need to use the resistors. You CAN do what's called 5-wire at the motors in the doors, but it's so much easier to make a trip to radio shack and get the resistors.
It sounds like they have no friggin clue what they are doing. I would just tell them to put the locks back to factory and we'll walk you through doing them yourself. They are probably trying to do it with a + trigger or some BS. Hopefully they didn't screw up the CTM or something.

it is the 160xvl. sorry for not being specific enough. my power locks are aftermarket locks. i called the "installer" today and he was refusing to do it, even though i told him what had to be done with resistors and all that. i'm not a retard when it comes to wiring i just basically didn't want to deal with putting it in myself. i'm thinking now i should have. anyway, i spoke to the supervisor and he said he would personally look at it and would have no problem hooking it up. so my appointment is saturday we'll see what happens then i guess. i was going to hook up the locks myself but since they know they didn't do it it will void the warranty on it. And trust they will remember me for a LONG time. lol. The worst part about this is that my girlfriend works there, you would think they would take care of their coworkers and their family and what not.
And here is a real good one for you guys. you'll probably enjoy this. There is a kid that is probably around the age of 21 or so, he is the only one that went to school for installations and all that. Noone else is certified besides him. not even the supervisor. My 1 year old brother could wire this crap better then these idiots.
imnothot, what is this DEI alarm your talking about. they told me this was not an alarm at all, basically just starter and keyless entry, with a fancy flashing blue LED. Pretty dumb if you ask me.

I'm 23 and am not "certified" either. I did go to 2 years of Electrical theory and conStruction aside from high school and have a certificate from that. But that's basically it. Schooling can only teach you so much. It means nothing until you have some experience and hands-on.
They sell load resistors at radio shack? I never knew that, I thought I would have to order them offline. Those resistors fix the "Bulb out" indication right? Where the light blinks really fast letting you know that the bulb is burnt out.
