180k...wow. I've got 155K miles on mine and it's still runnin strong. I feel the same way you do...might as well keep rebuilding as long as the body is holding together. At this point it's much cheaper than a new car payment. I figure if I put the money into the truck that I would spend on even a el-cheap-o car payment each month my truck would be near perfect (and new) in no time. I'm hoping to hit over 200K before I replace anything major like the engine/trans. So far the dakota has been one of only a few cars/trucks I have actually enjoyed owning. I bought mine off the original owner with about 121k miles and it has been a dependable truck so far. I've had to replace a few things but it's to be expected with a 10 yr old truck.

yea i love my truck so much...its just i cant afford to drive it this summer with expected gas to be at 4.12 here....

i have greatly considered a 600ccbike to toot around in for the summer and keep it through college(the bike being paid off) and sell my dakota for it and when winter rolles around ill probably get a small 4-6 banger for climate comforts i just dont like the fact of getting rid of my truck but my plans are toput in a 408 strocker, procharged, 6-speed, 3:93 gears posi, 4/6 drop with low pro tires on my twenties, and paint damn near everything black

but it all depend on weather my parents trust me on a bike

I have 214.000 on my 2000 4x4 and only replaced the alt,and water pump 1000 miles ago. air conditioner comp at 180.000 other than that all original, even the battery! This by far is the best vehical i have ever owned.it has never failed me.I got it with the v-6 cause i thought i would save on gas,but my buddy has the same truck with the v-8 and we get the same millage.

I know how it is with the gas prices...it's getting harder and harder to feed the beast... 4x4 + V8= empty wallet...I've considered a bike or even a scooter for running around but by the time I buy one and insure it I could've just put the money in the tank and kept driving my faithful truck. Sounds like big plans if you keep the truck. I'm hoping to do a few things to mine but nothing too extreme. I'd be happy with a 300-350HP crate engine and everything else freshened up. (rebuild trans, t-case, rear diff w/fresh posi unit)
