the best mod for a 3.9 is a 5.9.[sm=happybounce.gif]

seriously though, i would go 1.7's and an R/T TB and a nice 2800 stall converter. also if you are really planning on gettin serious go get yourelf a 75 shot.

To be honest, if you start modifying the 3.9, putting money into it. By the time you are done doing all that, you could have bought a 5.9, had it in and still come out with more power...

I wanted more power, and that is what I did. My 5.9 Rocks. I paid 800 with harness comp for my engine about 100 k miles, dropped it in. Cost me about a grand for that. My next thing is something with the tranny. Thats what I need. But if you want power 5.9 is the way to go.

3.9 is a sucker engine, you will pay 200-300 or more for a cam, 500 for rockers, a throttle body well that can be expensive, for a used 5.9 on it costs about 100 bucks + shipping and if you want a nicer one, upto 500 about.

So just think about it and what you want and if it's just a cam your after I say go for it. But remember if you start doing more you could of had the 5.9 and it is a easy swap... Especially if you get a harness that fits nicely together unlike mine, I think if you go 99 and you got a 2000, you will have the exact same or vise versa...

the 5.9 is rated at 250hp on the kota r/t with 345 pounds of torque, considerably more than the v6 (175hp/225tq)

in my opinion the extra 75hp is not worth the drop in gas mileage. i would have thought it would be higher than that also. i mean the caliber srt4 has 285hp with a 4 cylinder. kind of a waste for the dakota i think.

Horse Power isn't everything.

Torque is all about acceleration, if your looking for speed, the millage yea it isn't that great but it isn't that great with the 3.9 either, and Im sure once you put mods on you will get similar millage.
