ok start over, take your multi meter, with the key on, test the power supply to the TPS. to do this, unplug the cable, this will throw a check engine light but worry about that after this, with the key still on, ENGINE NOT RUNNING, take you position and negative leads and test the outer terminals of the plug, if it reads 5 volts you're good with power supply. if it reads -5 volts, you're still good, just your test leads are backwards, no big deal. now get a thin wire to use as a probe. stick the probe wire in the middle terminal with the plug off, make sure you do not let that wire touch the other terminals otherwise serious damage can occur and i will not be responsible for it, bend that wire backwards ( with it still connected into the middle terminal) and plug the cable back into the throttle position sensor, then check the sensor with the values we gave you. with the engine off still but the key still on. at idle position or the throttle plates closed, should read that .35 - .9 volts, then turn the throttle to wide open throttle and it should read up to 4.5 volts. you can turn the plates by looking directly on the other side of the throttle body and push that lever forward. if your voltage is not within the specs i gave you, then the TPS is shot. to clear the engine light, remove the negative cable on the battery and hold the key in the start position for 30 secs. make sure you turn the ignition off before you disconnect the cable though. but like i said, be very careful when rigging up that wire, im not sure what damage can happen. i did this procedure when testing mine and it worked. if you dont feel comfortable with messing with it then dont do it.

yeah, you need to do it with the plug connected to the tps to get the right reading, get a chilton manual, has pics in there of how to do it.
