i ran across something the other day. iam not sure about the dates i THINK it was from 1980 to 1983 jeep used a 4 cyl that was from gm they called the iron duke. it has the same bellhousing patteren as a small block chevy. they used a chrysler 904 behind it, with a small block chevy bellhousing patteren. so does this mean that one might be able to put a small block chevy in front of a 904? at least you would finaly have a small block chevy with a good trany.

about the 440. if its a daily driver dont put to much cam in. for every day driving dont go more than 268 degree advertised this is NOT at .05 the 440s have tons of bottom end power. now if you want a race engine or a play toy around 280 to 290. in this range and up you may need a stall convertor. a stall converter will KILL street driving mpg. you also lose engine brakeing, also you will need a trany cooler, cause a stall convertor makes LOTS of heat, so the brakes need to be good. be sure and check for the alinement pins from the block to trany. i think they are 1/2 inch dia. if you dont have the pins it will wipe out the convertor flex plate. been there done that bought the tee shirt. my brain is starting to hurt i think i will stop now.
