I want to do a seafoam treatment on my truck, but I'm wondering if it is a good idea or not on my engine. Its a 3.9 and has 135,000 on it (I've only put about 10,000 on it), and as far as I know it has never had any kind of seafoam or injector cleaner or anything in it.

If I were to do it I'd do 1/3 bottle in the oil, 1/3 in a vacuum line, and 1/3 in the gas tank. My concern is that it would be too much of a shock to the motor since it has never had a clean-out like this before. Am I going to do more damage than good?

 

gas and vacuum would be okay. The oil I would get a little iffy about it. How long have you had the truck, and how often did you do oil changes, and what kind of oil. synthetic dino ect...

 

I've had it about 8 months. Since I've owned it I've done oil changes every 3000 miles, almost exactly, with Valvoline 10W-30 conventional oil.

 

i don't think that doing a sea-foam on it would hurt it... i probably woundn't do it in the oil, just yet but in the gas and vaccum should be good for it...

i will not say anything bad about seafome, just cause i havent used it. it is no dought a good product. i have been using marvel mystery oil for decades. it keeps a fuel system clean. a friend told a story about a guy that had a two engine aircraft, and he used mmo, even though the faa didnt aprove it. the faa told him he had to overhual. x number of hours.
the mech took the engine apart. and couldent see why it was getting an overhual. the inside was as good as new. stright from the man that fueled the aircraft. use mmo at 4oz in 10 gal of fuel mmo was started in 1923

 

where do you get this stuff?

 

It should be fine in the oil as long as you do it right before an oil change. A common mistake people make is to just put seafoam in the oil and leave it in there. You should not do this because it WILL thin out your oil even though seafoam is a petroleum product. In fact if you read the bottle carefully, it says not to leave it in the oil. I usually put 1/3 in the gas, then put 1/3 in the vacuum line and blow all the smoke out. Then I put 1/3 in the crankcase, drive it around the block then stop in the driveway, jack up the front end and drain the oil. Then fill up with 4 quarts of fresh mobil1 fully synthetic. Its best to do it while its still hot, that way any gunk that the seafoam broke up wont settle back into the pan and will drain out.

lol... do you just get seafoam at the local car store? (ie pep boys, autozone, etc)
