Default Need some help with cylinder heads

Ok so I have been burning some rad fluid lately, took my 01 with the 5.9 in to the dealer to get it checked out. Cracked cylinder head. Here is my question to some of the tech guys. They want 2600 to replace the head, absurd I thought but whatever. Is there a place I can buy a new engine with better performance and be better off, I can do the install myself, as long as we are not getting into custom install. Maybe it is possible to get a set of really good heads, have them put them on, or I can do that myself, and gain a little performance there?? I need to get it fixed one way or another just trying to get the best for the buck, even if it is spending a little more. 2001 Dodge Dakota with 4 wheel drive and 5.9 motor, which only has 67,000 miles. Thanks for the help

I would get a set of heads and do it yourself. Push rod engines aren't to bad to do heads. You will save a ton too.

So would those stage three heads be the best bang for the buck, and best performance?? Or should I go with something not so "wild" as not to interfere with breaking something else? Thanks for the help, where can I find a guide for changing the heads, can I get that with a Haynes Manual.

no, these are 360 magnum engines, I would just try to find a set of R/T heads if i were you... maybe even used as long as they're in good condition. check out other dakota forums, alot of times people sell things for cheap.
