Need some help here.. quick responses appreciated.

I am just wrapping up my swap and have got a problem. when i turn the key to accessory right before you start it, my electric fan turns on. Why is this? I dont have the clutch fan on yet but i dont think that should matter.

I am using a v8 wiring harness out of a durango. Two plugs are different than the v6. The transfer case switch plug, and one up front that connects the engine wiring harness to the harness that the headlights & stuff are on. I spilced the old plug on this spot. I dont think this is where my problem lies though, because i seperated the two plugs and turn the key again and the fan was still on.

I also have a leaky fuel injector too, that i have to take care of before i try to turn it over.

I'd say fix that FI and see if it will fire. If it does, i wouldnt worry about the fan (i didn't know we had electrics behind the clutch fan, i thought only the rams had that)

Alright. Finally making progress. I had my buddy that works for my dodge dealer come over and help me out. He was able to bring up his tec connect service and view every last thing on any doge vehicle, it was pretty sweet. Anywhoo....

That switch that i wired together, I matched the colors up on them figuring thats what you should do. Nope, apparently just because the colors are the same, doesnt mean they do the same thing. (I dont know why Dodge has to be difficult like this). We found a few problems that we should be able to correct tomarrow. Something to do with the Automatic Shutdown Relay, and it should take care of my electric fan too.

On a side note. I really dont want to put my clutch fan on. Has anyone taken theres off? Will this hurt anything? Being as i do still have the elec fan I would think it would be okay. It doesnt usually get any hotter than 85-90 here in the summer.

i think it's been done many times. 180 Tstat wouldn't hurt...

Gettin real close to the problem now. So... I got all the wiring straightened out the way its supposed to be, except the electric fan is still on. cant figure this one out.

After I redid the wires I still had the same problem tho. I noticed that with the v8 pcm i was getting the "no bus" message. And from what ive read in a few posts here, it means bad pcm. So, I took it out and put in my v6 pcm and the truck fired up! No CEL's or anything. Of course it didnt run so well without cylinders 7&8 but it tells me one of two things.

1. My v8 pcm is caput
2. My v8 pcm is good but it doesnt work in my truck (2000 Dakota) because they never offered the 5.2 for this year. (not sure if this could be a reason or not.)

The PCM is out o a 99 Durango rom a junkyard, along with the wiring harness and the motor itself. I hope its just a bad pcm. My GF's sis is gonna come over with her truck(99 Durango) tomorrow and let me borrow the pcm in it to try.

Is my logic reasonable?

I took the 99 Durango PCM back and got a 98 Dakota PCM. The truck fired right up. Although... After about 30 seconds I get the nobus message and a CEL. The engine doesnt cut out or stall or anything. I took it around the block up to operating temp and my trans temp light came on.

The only other thing that is different is that my "O/D Off" light is on and the button on the shifter doesnt do anything.

My friend (the dodge guy) is bringing his scanner over tonight to read the code.

Any idea what may be going on? Thanks for everyones input.

Im just getting the whole front assembly bolted back on, and gettin the hoses/wires back to where they go. It hasnt been to bad except for the goddamn starter. I broke 3 sockets, 2 ratchets and a swivel extension getting it off. I was finally able to get it after removing the exhaust manifold and steering shaft. It must be torqued to 500000000 ft/lbs from the factory. I decided I never wanna have to do that again so i bought a new starter to put in it.

I found out that my v6 throttle cable wont work with my v8 TB, so I need to goto the scrap yard tomorrow and pick a v8 one up.

Also while im down here its getting a new tranny filter and gasket too, since im pretty sure its never been done in 80k miles. Every plug from my v8 harness is working with the truck except for one, which i spliced the old one on to and am praying that it will work correctly.
yeah, mine gave me a stroke too.
