Also make sure you use a different fluid with the locker or LSD when you put it in. Or use a friction additive. Some Lucas Oil fluids say they are LSD friendly out of the bottle, 95_318SLT runs pure Lucas Oil Stabilizer in his rear diff (front too?) with additive also I believe.

Ya I still got the 8.25. I have a very strong 5.9 and I don't baby it. I have had absolutely no problems with my rear end. I would upgrade to the 9.25 but then I would have to buy another locker. So until it dies I will stick with the 8.25. I had this locker for about 4-5 yrs now. I thought you said you have the locker already. Or was that just the plan? And 27 spines are not to bad. Like I said no problems with mine. You can upgrade to 29 splines if you want.

Actually with the powertraxs lockers you don't need anything special. Just run normal oil.

Yeah, I run straight Lucas Oil Stabilizer in mine, but I went ahead and added some LSD friction modifier also. I haven't changed the fluid in the front.

Heh, well thanks for all the input on that. I don't have too much spare money to be getting the powertrax, since it's just just daily driver. The Dana one I found will be suitable enough. I mean if I wanted something a lot better for offroading I'd just get a better axle, anyway. Right now my frame of mind is that ANYTHING is better than what I have now. I hate spinning in light rain when I hardly stepped on the gas...it's just incredibly annoying...even when my tires were new. I don't even know why open differential exists. Sure it's less wear on the tires, but I'd rather have more wear than risk my own safety in weather conditions, or having to use 4x4 for nothing.

I believe the 29 spline axles are a smidge longer from what I've researched, because I did look into swapping 29 spline axles with either a 29 spline Detroit or Aussie locker. I have Aussie lockers in my B2 and I originally had a Lock-Right in the old 7.5 rear before I grenaded the crosspin and took out everything else so I upgradded to a 31 spline 8.8 and geared/locked it at the same time. The No-Slip I've driven is in my friends ranger.

Yeah, DO NOT run synthetic oil with a No-Slip, my friends had a lot of engagement problems when running synthetic, conventional oil it works great. I guess the synchro rings in the No-Slip don't like Syn.

So the Dana trac-loc came in today...how much does this job cost at a shop typically?

I drove home from class tonight in the rain, same truck and diff as you, and it was fun... if I wanted to get killed. I forgot I could not pull out in front of traffic with out a half mile of room... and the clover leafs getting off the highway.. oh yeah real
fun.

And if you could let us know how much the instal is. I've wanted to get rid of my open diff since day one.

I took it to a Midas my friend works at. The tech said it's cheaper to buy a rebuild kit online rather than have the shop supply it. I found kits for 100 bucks. He mentioned that shops would charge 200-300 bucks because of the extensive labor with getting everything adjusted right. He offered me to pay him 100 bucks in cash for him to install it himself and not through the shop. So...it looks like an extra 200 bucks, but it's alright. I'm not too much in a hurry with it so I'll wait a paycheck or 2 before I continue.
