Odd noise
I have a 99 standard cab short box Dakota, 5.2, 4x4 5 speed. Today while going through a drive thru, I noticed a noise that only happens when the clutch is let out while vehicle is in neutral. While pressed down, it goes away. I couldnt hear it while it was in gear with the clutch out, but that doesnt mean it isn't happening. It sounds like a slow buzzing, almost like slow gun fire ( I don't know how else to describe it). Any help would be great.
Throw out bearing or Pilot bearing is my guess. Can't remember which one it would be though. I had a similar problem with my old escort. It sounded like a bird chirping when my foot was off the clutch and when away when it was on the clutch.
May also be one of the springs on the clutch plate too.

i know what you are talking about, mine does the same. from what i have heard it is no big deal, and i think it is easily fixed when you change out your clutch. i am in no hurry to fix it. but it is one of the bearings. i do not know much at all about transmissions so do not listen to me

If you were in a drive-thru in Detroit, it probably was gun fire. "You want fries and hollowpoints with that burger?"
