Hey whats up guys, been a while...

So I want to run straight pipe on my 2004 Dakota. Its a 3.7 V6....

Can this be done myself? It looks like my muffler is clamped on right now from the factory.....

Do all I need is a pipe and 2 new clamps? Also, if anyone knows the specs on this trucks pipe diameter and length I would need, that would be awesome too!

Giving you are running a 6 cylinder, unless you just want to run straight pipes, there isn't any reason or sound quality reason why I would do this or recommend this. It will be really loud, and be "man I hate it when 6cylinder trucks run dual exhaust". Espcially running it straight, with no mufflers etc. Do yourself a favor, and this will sound better. Run a cat back single in single out muffler, with a nice tip. You won't have to worry about cel's being throw, and the tone and sound will be tuned, and it won't sound stupid. You wont get the loud grumble with a v6 as you would with a v8. Just my 2 cents, keep some class, but add some quality sound my brotha!

 

I guess your definitely right man, I'd rather it sound like a v8 and retain some of its class and not trip any CEL's.

So what do you suggest for a si/so muffler?

Honestly, I think all the mufflers do the same. Some have an oval concept which will tune the sound, some are square. I personally like spintech. You can't go wrong with a borla or even a flow master. Your a stock displacement motor, you don't need to worry about how much you can flow, you will gain flow by going with any aftermarket muffler vs. stock. Keep the cat, keep all the o2 plugged in, just drive down to the local muffler shop, and you want a cat back. You don't need a fancy name. Your looking for a little rumble under throttle, and you can add a nice clean tip turned right out the side behind the tire. Looking totally stock to the untrained eye.

I dont wanna buy a cat back exhaust system right now... just a muffler...

i believe the flowmaster kits for our trucks utilize their 70 series mufflers. and those kits sound great IMO. so id go that route.

 

from someone who has a catback exhaust on a v6.... dont even bother, its a waste of time and money. just find a muffler that you like and have a shop cut off your old one and weld you in a new one. I know it has clamps, but im telling you right now that you'll never get the muffler off just by removing the clamps.

 

i have a 3.7 v6 and i would recommend the flowmaster super 44. i have recieved comments on how my truck sounds different than any other v6. but i have the cat back setup. and my super 44 is SI/DO. you wont be disappointed with the sound after its done with. and like wink said you wont get that muffler off by just removing the clamps my truck had 50,000 miles on it when i did mine and it wouldnt even think of moving. personally, i got my kit off of ebay for 170$ and it came with the muffler. everything fit right in place perfectly. i was impressed to say the least.
