Default Transfer case linkage

I am new to the dodge NV231 and am having a linkage issue. The truck is in 2WD but when i try to shift to 4WD the shifter has no resistance and the transfer case does not go into any other range. I was hoping it would be just a easy issue like the transfer linkage was unhooked but its a tight fit under there and i cant see the linkage. Sorry the haynes manual is helping me much since the transfer case section is like 3 pages and says nothing about the linkage or cable?

Is the NV231 use a cable or rods for shift linkage and what is the best way to get to it. I think its broke or un-hooked?

Linkage rod. Just crawl under the truck and look! It won't be hard at all to see!

Thanks should it be on the driver side or passanger side of the truck.

It should be on the driver's side of the transmission, and the shifter lever should be bolted to the side of the transmission, and the linkage rod goes back from the bottom of the lever to the transfer case. It could be that the linkage bushings are gone.

Sounds like the "set screw" on the shift rod came loose, should be an easy fix.

Anyone have a link to a parts diagram for the t-case linkage area? I'm working on a dakota that the complete linkage rod is gone. Need to order parts...
thanks

Fixed for the time. The clip that holds the rod to the little shift bar was gone. I put a little clip on it for now but the linkage needs to be adjusted a bit and i would like to find the correct clip from dodge.
