Best mod ever. Free, quiet, 10whp, faster warmups...

Mine was a little hard to get off, so it took about 2 minutes.

Leave it in your truck if you're worried about overheating, it just twist back on.

I am having a hell of a time getting it off. I dont have vice grips big enough to fit around the pully to stop it from spining. I also tried jaming things in between it and the bolt and some other pulleys to put friction on the pulley but it would just spin out. Any suggestiongs on how to get this sucker off without buying the vice grips?

thanks for your time!

update: I took a 2 1/2 inch c clamp and put it behind the pully and tightened as tight as i could get it with my hand. The c clamp didnt move but the pully still sliped and i couldnt get any levrage on the bolt. Im turning towards the passanger side while facing the truck so unless i am turning the wrong way, that shouldnt be the issue.

My brother suggested to take it to the shop and pay 50 bucks for them to remove it, but i dont see what they could do that i cannot. Sigh!

you can try an autoparts store that does tool rentals and get a clutch fan tool thing. i doubt a shop would charge you $50. literally a 2 minute job, if they are nice they wouldn't charge you.

dont pay that just keep messing with it sometimes mine comes off easy sometimes its a bitch...you gotta grap the pulley with a big pair of channel locks or pliers and then take another pair of channel locks or if you have an adjustable that big and turn it to the passenger side its just the initial breaking loose of it that is hard then you can just spin it right off

like this just replace the vice grip with another pair of channel lockers or pliers that can get around that pulley

On my son's I put a large Crescent wrench where you have the Channel locks and then whacked the end of it sharply (to the left) with a large ball-peen hammer. It came loose immediately. Leave the belt installed and add a little extra tension while doing this to help hold the pulley. I wouldn't advise wedging anything anywhere unless you're sure it's substantial enough not to break off. The open end impact method should work without resorting to butchery.

The Autozone rental, wont work. You have to have this in link.
Or put some small bolts in the holes and wedge a screw driver in it. Then wack with a hammer. Just dont be to hard on the water pump.

I bought mine at Napa for $20 bucks!

its easy to do it the way in that pic...i did it the last time with a tiny little pos pair of pliers and a pair of channel locks and didn't scratch or mess anything up, no need to buy any special tools, just sayin...
