Default New Cold Air Intake makes hissing noise

I just put a new cold air intake on my truck tonight, its an '04 3.7L v-6. It makes a pretty loud hissing noise under part throttle....around 2000 rpm and only if I'm not giving it much gas. If I mash the pedal, it sounds great, just wondering if this is normal or if I could possibly have a small leak?

Also, does the design/shape of the cone filter make a difference? Maybe if I got a different filter it wouldn't do the hissing noise anymore?

you can check for a vaccum leak but, its just the new intake. i thought i had one when i put on my larger TB but its just the air sucking sound.

its normal. the stock intake is designed to reduce the noise. The hi-flow ones arent.

Well I added an additional 6" to the intake, got an aluminum tube and collar from Advance Auto for less than $20. It allowed the air filter to get further away from teh engine, hopefully allowing cooler air, and also quieted down the hissing noise a little bit. The intake is one of those cheap ebay deals, I'm actually quite impressed with it so far and kinda like the hissing noise now. The truck DEFINATELY seems to be a little quicker, and has a nice, deep throaty sound to it when I get into the throttle. Now if only I could find a friggin exhuast system for it......

It was $40 with shipping. I spent a few bucks extra, got a 6" extension to get the filter further away from the engine and had to get another one of those rubber collar things w/ the hose clamps.

I'm really impressed with it, it was pre-drilled for the little sensor thing and the breather tube and it definately added some power. Sounds great when I get on it too, very deep and throaty. I am going to add a Dynomax super turbo muffler next week and I'm thinking it will sound pretty good after that, its a pretty quiet muffler but louder than stock and I heard one on another v-6 and it sounded good. I personally dont like the sound of super loud exhaust but this one sounded pretty good, I hope it works out.
